UPSR 2016 ENGLISH COMPREHENSION

Hi there! It has been a couple of months since we last met.
Before we start with the new session, let us revise on last year's UPSR paper.
A simple analysis is provided for you as well as some exercise which are similar to last year's UPSR paper.
Let's check it out!

Section A
There were 7 subsections in English comprehension.
Section A consist of 20 multiple choice questions.
The item analysis is as follow:

The item analysis is as follow:
SECTION A
Choose the best answer to complete the sentence.
1. Father walked _____ into the bedroom as the baby was fast asleep.
A lazily B quietly C soundly D gracefully
The question is on adverb and the answer is B, quietly.
Many grammar item could be tested in question 1 to 5.
They could be verbs, nouns, adjectives, preposition, conjunction and many more.

Question 6
Choose the most suitable proverb.
6. My sister and I made some plans for our parent's anninversary but my brother _____ by telling them.
A waste not, want not           
B let the cat out of the bag
C strike while the iron is hot.
D half a loaf is better than none
The question is on proverbs.
B is the best answer because by letting the cat out of the bag means to unintentionally reveal a secret or a surprise.

Questions 12 to 15:
Based on the picture, choose the best answer to fill in in the blanks in the passage that follows.
It is 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon. The family is having tea in the living room. Encik Zainal is reading a newspaper. Puan Siti is __(12)__ a cup of tea. Their daughter Azura is pouring some tea for __(13)__ There are a few __(14)__ of cookies on a plate. There is also a __(15)__ of tissue. It is placed at the edge of the table.

This subsection consists of a short paragraph with a picture as a guide. It requires you to look at the picture carefully for you to be able to answer the questions correctly. Question 12 is testing you on verbs while Question 13 is on reflexive pronouns Both Questions 14 and 15 provide you a little challenge since you have to identify the best determiners. C pieces and B box would be the best answer that suits the picture for both questions.

HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILL (HOTS) QUESTIONS
There are some HOTS questions in the previous UPSR paper.
Question 23
From the given list, which book would you read? Give reasons.
Question 25
(c) The best time to go to Mario Pizza is during dinner. Do you agree? Give reasons.

In these questions, you need to give reasons on why would you choose:
(a) a book to read
(b) the best time to eat at a restaurant.

CLOSURE
Based on the analysis, we know that all aspects of the language would be tested in UPSR. Therefore, do more reading and revision. Don't forget to ask your teachers a parents if you have difficulty in understanding whatever you've learnt. Keep on trying. Do not be afraid to make mistakes because mistakes are proof that you’ve been trying. All the best!
